Evaluation

For my coursework, I have worked independently to create a 30 seconds Title Sequence, 3 min interview and a magazine campaign for my Lifestyle show, "Score". The production has a primary audience at males aged 10-35, who are most likely to have an interest in football or participate in it.

Overall, I think the production went well. The title sequence I created fits with the current style of the show Match of the Day, as it does introduce any producers or location of the show, only as fast shots of football action. It gives the audience an insight into what the show is to include. For my print work, I used similar codes and conventions and the same character to the interview in order the audience our able to identify the product.

For my research, I looked into programmes such as Match of the Day and Top Gear, as these appeal to Lifesyle TV Shows, both have similar demographics and are also set in a studio. I analysed both shows very closely looking at the different codes and conventions, so my title sequence will follow with the right codes and conventions for the genre. From this, the audiences exceptions will be fulfilled. My first initial aim was to research on different sports shows then after pick out specific ones I liked, so I picked 2 shows that has similarities as to the format of the title sequence and the layout of the show. I also examined a magazine cover and poster from the show Top Gear- analysing the picture, language and characters used for their print campaign. It inspired me and gave me ideas as to how I will create my campaign. The editing of the sequence of both shows don't focus on long scene but, short fast paced clips- such technique gave me an insight as to how to develop my sequence for my show. By researching, it helped me when completing my production piece as it ensured the show was keeping with the correct style.

In my short 30sec sequence, I didn't really focus on a mise-en-scene due to the style of the sequence. It just featured different short clips and pictures from previous matches and individual skill videos. From the sequence, it has a layout of videos then pictures after- concluding the sequence I increased the pace of the video by making the clips a lot shorter. Doing this increases tension and entices the audience to watch the show. These type of shows appeal to the audience because people like to watch the review matches, and also pass their judgements regarding the match or goal scored. It makes the audience seem like an expert football analysis.

Shooting the exclusive interview between myself and foreign exchange student Roberto Lagerman, I tried to make it very relaxed and friendly between us. Also in order to give it that interview feel, Roberto's answers were not scripted- this follows the codes and conventions of an interview. This production would attract the younger audience ages 13-17 to watch as most of them would be able to relate to Roberto or find it interesting- whether they being an exchange student or a young aspiring footballer in any academy.

The major thing that proved difficult was trying to improve the sound of the interview, which was filmed on a Nikon camera. It was the main camera I use in my production and I had my friend from college to help monitor the footage and also help film some close up shots of myself and Roberto with he's IPhone 5. He's final footage captured from his phone turned out to be better than the footage from the Nikon camera. Although, the final production sounds a lot better than it did originally.

To create the sequence, i used Apple's iMovie. This was a  success as the editing tools within this software enabled me to be precise when editing. I was also able to select an appropriate theme 'Sport', which allowed me to uses the 'Film Strip' effect for my title sequence. The theme was very effective for my production. I found it easy and practical to use, and I encountered no problems. For the ad campaign, I used an online editing site and the app named ‘VSCO Cam’. This was also extremely effective as it allowed me to edit my photos to a professional standard, and add text; such as the title Score.

If I was to undertake an e-media tasks, I would have created a market campaign for the show. I would’ve designed and created a Social Networking page for both Facebook and Twitter. With these site and could incorporate the use of hashtag. The audience would be able to interact with the show and communicate with others who are also watching the show by just using SCORE. They can also share the links allowing a wider demographic to view the show. This is a way of promotion for the show which is very important. I would have also created a banner advertisement for a link to an official page: www.score.co.uk.  This would appear on the facebook page so the viewer can see it while on the page. This means the banner would reach the right target audience.

Overall, I was happy with the outcome of my project. If I could redo it again, I would ensure that the camera equipment I use was is able to pick of the dialogue and not the background noise of the wind before I started filming.  I would also be more selective about the titles of videos featured in my sequence, to ensure that the final product fits in well with the brief and the codes and convention of an interview. For my ad campaign, i would focus more on have a magazine cover, content page or an article from the interview which could then be featured in my score magazine.

Final Production work

This is my final broadcast production, I decided to merge both the title sequence and interview-making it seem more like a little interview which might get featured in the show. Its only a short production based around the lifestyle of  aspiring footballer Roberto Lagerman. The camera angles I used were pretty basic. I mainly used mid shots with a close ups from and angle. I decided to use these shots because i wanted the video to be very simply and not complex- so it only focuses on Roberto and myself and what was beaing saod. i relied on the natural environmental lighting in the video to also give the video a simplistic feel.

Print Work- Initial Magazine Idea

Here's a preview of my Print Work. I focused on creating a magazine cover has similarities to other sport magazines such as; Match of the Day. My magazine cover follows all Codes and Conventions of a Magazine front cover.

There's a Title (masthead) 'Score' which is easily recognised at the top of the magazine with a bold red background. Most common mastheads are usually one or two word, which has a trademark or unique font that differentiates them from other magazines.
Other conventions that it follows is the use of a 'Puff' and 'Buzz words'. The puff offers something else to the magazine such as a free giveaway. An example is the Match of the Day magazine ( seen on the right), that offers FREE Match Attackers when you purchase the magazine. With my print production, I used the buzz word 'Exclusive' for the subtitle which links with the main image. By using a buzz word, it attracts attention towards it causing the reader to view it.

Interview Questions/Transcript

Interviewer (Collins Alfred)- Hello, Roberto thanks for joining us here at Oaklands and I've heard that you've being staying and living here in England for about 7 months now?

Interviewee (Roberto Lagerman)- Yes it was 6 months and a half and I enjoyed it a lot actually. Like time goes really really fast. Its quite nice here in England.

Collins- So what have you being doing?

Roberto- I've been here in Oaklands studying and improving my English and also to mature myself because I'm here on my own. Its nice because you understand many things about yourself and obviously also sport. I've played football with the first team of Horndean Hawks and its not obviously in the same level as Juventus but, its quite nice. And I love English football and English mentality.

Collins- Yeah cuz you play there for the Under 18s at Juventus?

Roberto- Yes, Yes I do!

Collins- So just a quick question, have you met any famous...

Roberto- Well I went to like, if your in the academy, you've got like free tickets like once every month to go and see a match. So you're like here near the bench of the Juventus, like near like 1 metre from the normal fans so, they can just talk to the normal football players and those stuff, insulting them if they play bad or something like that so yeah its quite cool.

Collins- So from a young age has any specific player inspired you to pick up an interest in football?

Roberto- So in the modern age of course, now there's one guy, he's retired, oh no he plays in the old tem. He's my idol, Alessandro Del Piero Captain of Juventus, legendary one but then, I'm a striker so I prefer Ibrahimovic or Van Basten. Those type of footballers that are like complete and everything and our really really good. They do everything just good, they never do something bad.

Collins- My personal one is Pogba, Paul Pogba.

Interview idea

Here's a preview of my interview broadcast. In this production piece, I (Collins Alfred) is interview Roberto Lagerman- who is an exchange student from Italy. He has an aspiring future due to his position as a striker in the Under 18s Juventus Academy. Roberto came to the UK just over 6 months ago, here to study and improve his English language. During his time here, he joined the first team of a local football team (Horndean Hawks), where he plays has the striker. In this exclusive interview, Lagerman explains to me what its like living and playing in Italy and which player inspires him.
